Overview
The Shield Guard is the recommended starting class for new players. With the highest defense in the game and a forgiving block mechanic, mistakes are rarely fatal. What you sacrifice in damage, you gain in survivability and the ability to learn enemy patterns safely.
Block & Parry System
Block
Hold block to reduce incoming damage significantly. Drains stamina per hit absorbed. Safe but passive—use to learn enemy patterns.
Perfect Parry
Time your block at the moment of impact for a perfect parry. Negates all damage and staggers the enemy, creating a counter window.

Combat Tips
Learn Before You Parry
Use regular blocks first to learn enemy timing. Then graduate to parries.
Stamina is Life
Running out of stamina mid-block is death. Always keep reserves.
Counter Windows
After a parry, you have 2-3 hits before the enemy recovers. Don't get greedy.
Position Near Walls
Blocking near walls prevents knockback and keeps you in counter range.
Watch for Unblockables
Some attacks can't be blocked. Learn which ones and dodge instead.
Use Your Companion
Let your companion deal damage while you focus on defense and counters.
Best Soul Companions
Swordsman
RecommendedAdds damage you lack. The Swordsman attacks while you block, helping finish fights faster without sacrificing safety.
